Elderly man pistol whipped during home invasion

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers said it was a pretty savage beating.  An elderly man was assaulted late Monday night after two gunman forced their way into his home and robbed him.

The crime happened just before midnight.  Officers responded to a small home on New Grass Lane off of Lawyers Road.

According to officials on scene, the man was home alone, when someone knocked on his door.  When he went to answer it, to men pushed their way past him.

He was beaten with fists and pistol-whipped before the criminals started rummaging through the house looking for something of value.

What they found police said, were several cell phones, and the homeowners rife, all of which they took.

The two men ran out of the door, and are currently on the loose.

The homeowner was taken to Carolinas Medical Center in Matthews, where police said he should recover.

Crime scene investigators were at the home for well over an hour taking pictures and dusting for prints trying to find clues that could lead them to whoever is responsible.
