Resolved: Ohio, not North Carolina, should be known as the ‘birthplace of flight’. Resolved: The wall of protection the Isrealis are building was as necessary as the Berlin Wall was in its day. Resolved: The advent of the Internet and other technologies make it possible to move America toward a true democracy of ‘one man, one vote’ and away from the electorial college which has caused problems in past elections. Resolved: The use of the filibuster in the US Senate should be ended only by a super-majority vote as implied by the founding father’s creation of a filibuster itself. Resolved: The Salem Witch Trials were sexist in nature and economically motivated. (You could add that ancestors could currently file for economic damages, false imprisonment, and defamation of character) Resolved: The North may have won the Civil War but by examining the economic and social norms of the South during the Reconstruction era, the South won the more important peace.

If you mean you have to dispute/defend something in history, how about the gunfight at the OK corral? Your best bet would be to take the side of the cowboys, and dispute the innocence of the Earps. You can also discuss how this event has been portrayed in film and how popular culture has propagated the legend.

You could dispute Marbury v. Madison, and say that the courts took a power they were not given in the Constitution. You could take any number of cases where the Bill of Rights was selectively applied to the states and argue they did it wrong. You could argue that the Americans had no right to secede from the British monarchy. You’ve got options. Court cases, however, are probably your best bet.
