Is It Illegal To Take A Picture Of Your Ballot And Post It Publicly?

In North Carolina, we can vote early, so I went to vote on Friday. After I checked the person who I was voting for president, I took out my camera phone and took 3 pictures. Later I posted them to Facebook and even made one my profile picture.
Is this illegal? It’s my ballot after all.

Cameras and cell phones are not permitted in polling places because there is a right to privacy for others as well. Some states have laws that prohibit any photographic equipment within so many feet of a voting station. Follow the link and research. I found it…you broke the law: Photographing Voters Prohibited. – No person shall photograph, videotape, or otherwise record the image of any voter within the voting enclosure, except with the permission of both the voter and the chief judge of the precinct. If the voter is a candidate, only the permission of the voter is required. This subsection shall also apply to one-stop sites under G.S. 163-227.2. This subsection does not apply to cameras used as a regular part of the security of the facility that is a voting place or one-stop site. (c) Photographing Voted Ballot Prohibited. – No person shall photograph, videotape, or otherwise record the image of a voted official ballot for any purpose not otherwise permitted under law. (2001-460, s. 3; 2005-428, s. 1(b); 2007-391, s. 23.)

Voting is a personal thing. Why do you think they have closed voting booths for privacy. I don’t care who you voted for, and it really doesn’t matter. I voted for whom I thought would do the best job for the country.
