North Carolina Takes Away Planned Parenthood Funding?

Republican state representatives in North Carolina voted to override Democratic Gov. Bev Perdue’s veto of the state budget Wednesday morning, ensuring that a provision to strip all federal and state money from Planned Parenthood will take effect on July 1. North Carolina is now the third state, after Indiana and Kansas, to defund the family planning provider because it also provides abortions. Thoughts?

North Carolina is broke just like most of the other states. The State Representatives, both Republican and Democrats are battling with Perdue over most of the provisions in in the Bill she vetoed. Planned Parenthood is just one of many. Planned Parenthood shouldn’t even get Government money. Why should my tax dollars go to an organization that encourages abortions and the people who think they don’t encourage abortions is dreaming.

if you check your facts you will find that planned parent hood is a jfk era program that like all his good programs was supposed to become self supporting. whoops. that is just the start. it has been unjustly labled as a way to defund abortions when in reality it is just another dead horse that is waiting for the glue factory. we need to start weeding out all these double dipping programs. most of the planned parenthood programs are used by poverty families and most of them allready have medicaid. so that a doctor can still provide these services but will need to call them by their proper name. it also means that children will need parents to be informed what they are giving to their children if they go to a physician whether it is birth control or an abortion. or treatment for sexually transmitted disease. because for a physician to treat a child a parent or guardian must be present. just once it would be nice if people would get all the facts before they jump on the bandwagon.

Typical right wing bs as usual. Its sickening how bitter the base of that party has become. They get so fixated on these stupid symbolic fights and give little or no attention to real important issues. They have focused in on planned parent because the religious zealots think that its a place where all those deviant slutty young women go to kill their poor unborn children with a late term abortion. If you actually look up the actual facts, a word that has become blasphemy in that party. Most of what planned parenthood does has nothing to do with abortions what so ever. And late term abortions are incredibly rare procedures, usually only legally performed when the pregnancy itself threatens the women’s life.

The only people that are going to suffer are women and girls who aren’t part of the upper middle and upper classes. That organization does a helluva lot more than aborting unwanted, unplanned for kids. Its a great place for non and under insured women to have their health needs taken care of. As far as that jack a$$, who first answered this question and said that it never should’ve gotten government money, I’d rather for them to get it than Exxon Mobil or some rich a$$ corn farmer getting it in the form of subsides

For the country with the highest teen pregnancy rate I think their plan is shocking… Abstinence doesn’t work, education does.

Planned Parenthood now that’s quite a name. If you’re having an abortion you are planning to not be a parent!

It’s a curious double-standard you conservatives possess. Rail against abortion, and work your hardest to push it farther back into the Black Market, make it incredibly dangerous for any woman looking to have one. Then shame the single mothers dependent on ”welfare,” demanding that they cease their use of government assistance, even if it is used largely to support the children they struggle to raise alone, even if they already have the only kind of job availalble to young women who become pregnant and have no choice but to choose motherhood over education or a truly productive future. Those women should have used some form of birth control if they wanted to have sex, and naturally, just about all of us agree that birth control methods are the wise choice. You don’t want them to have abortions, because that’s murder. You don’t want your taxes paying for their children after they’re born, because WIC and food stamps are the equivalent of theft to you. So then the most rational solution to all that is to de-fund Planned Parenthood completely, even while the program distributes contraceptives, such as birth control pills, which would otherwise be next to impossible to afford. Oh, wait….PP is ONLY an abortion program. That’s all they do. I mean, why else would you beg these politicians of yours to make it disappear? Hold up!! I know why, because the pull-out method works! It BETTER work, since that’s one of the only options left! No abortions. No welfare. No birth control. Excuse me if I fail to see where the rationality enters your thought process, but it’s always no, no, no, even there doesn’t seem like much room for the only available answer to the godless peasant whores you frown upon is a yes.

Planned Parenthood should never have received government funding in the first place. This is a step in the right direction.
