Several streets closed in uptown after gas leak, officials say

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Several streets in uptown Charlotte are closed due to a gas leak, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

The incident happened around 2 p.m. Thursday on the 600 block of East 7th Street.

Officials say some people had to be evacuated from a nearby business.

North Davidson, 7th, 5th, and McDowell Streets are closed, as well as parts of Trade Street while crews work on the leak.

Drivers should avoid the area if possible.

There is no word on what may have caused the gas leak, or how long officials expect to the roads to be closed.
