Sources told WBTV News that at least four people are dead following a single car accident in Spencer.
The crash happened near the intersection of South Rowan Avenue and 11th Street at about 9 p.m. Friday.
First responders told WBTV news that as many as nine people could have been in the car. They are working to confirm the exact number.
Of the four people who are dead two of them are children. The other two are adults, police said.
WBTV photographers on the scene confirmed that it was a single car crash and it appears that the car slammed into a tree.
The car was on fire when medics arrived and they discovered that several patients had been ejected from the crash while others were pinned in.
Police do not believe any of the children were properly restrained.
The three patients who were flown to Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, and Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte are children, police said, and their condition is critical..
Police have not released the identities or ages of the victims.
